Navratri Day 2 falls on Monday, October 12, 2026, and is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the second form of Goddess Durga. The colour traditionally followed for the second day of Sharad Navratri 2026 is White, making the day especially beautiful for simple white outfits, flowers, jewellery and festive accessories.
Maa Brahmacharini represents devotion, discipline, patience and determination. Her peaceful form reminds devotees that meaningful goals often require consistency and inner strength rather than haste. For families observing all nine days of Navratri, Day 2 therefore becomes a time for prayer, reflection and continuing the spiritual discipline begun on the first day.
Who is Maa Brahmacharini and what does her form signify?
The name Brahmacharini is associated with one who follows the path of tapasya or disciplined spiritual practice. Maa Brahmacharini is commonly depicted walking barefoot, holding a japa mala or rosary in one hand and a kamandalu in the other.
Her form is simple and peaceful compared with some of the more elaborate forms of Navadurga. She is traditionally associated with patience, dedication, wisdom, self-control and perseverance.
For devotees, her story can also carry a simple everyday message: remain committed to what matters, continue working patiently and do not abandon a meaningful goal simply because results take time.
What is the Navratri Day 2 colour in 2026?
The Navratri colour for October 12, 2026 is White. White is commonly associated with peace, purity and simplicity and complements the calm nature traditionally associated with Maa Brahmacharini.
You can incorporate white into the celebration through a saree, salwar suit, kurta, dupatta, flowers or accessories. White silk-thread bangles decorated with pearls, kundans, stones or gold-toned embellishments can also create an elegant Navratri look.
How can Maa Brahmacharini be worshipped on Navratri Day 2?
Begin by cleaning the puja space and arranging the items used according to your family’s Navratri tradition. Light a diya and incense if these are part of your household practice, and offer fresh flowers, fruits and naivedya to Maa Brahmacharini.
Devotees may spend some time in prayer, mantra chanting or quiet reflection. Families that established a Kalash on Day 1 generally continue their daily Navratri worship around the same puja setup throughout the festival.
Puja traditions can differ considerably between regions and families, so there is no need to replace established family customs with a different procedure simply because it is seen online.

What prasad is offered to Maa Brahmacharini?
Sugar, mishri and sweet preparations are traditionally associated with the bhog offered to Maa Brahmacharini on the second day of Navratri. A simple sweet dish prepared at home can therefore make a suitable Day 2 offering.
Since we shared Makhana Kheer for Day 1, for Day 2 you can prepare a different and easy festive sweet: Mawa Sugar Barfi.
Easy Mawa Sugar Barfi recipe for Navratri Day 2 prasad
This simple barfi needs only a few ingredients and can be prepared ahead of the puja.
Ingredients
- 250 grams mawa or khoya
- ½ cup sugar, adjusted according to taste
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk, if required
- ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
- Chopped almonds or pistachios, optional
How to make Mawa Sugar Barfi
Heat a little ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the mawa. Cook it gently on low heat, stirring continuously so that it does not stick or burn.
Once the mawa becomes soft and lightly aromatic, add a small quantity of milk if needed and continue cooking until the mixture begins to thicken.
Switch off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly before mixing in the sugar and cardamom. Using powdered sugar can make it easier to combine evenly.
Grease a plate or tray lightly with ghee and spread the mixture evenly. Garnish with chopped almonds or pistachios if desired.
Allow the barfi to set before cutting it into small squares or diamond shapes. Keep a portion separately in a clean bowl or plate for the puja and distribute it as prasad afterward.
Simple Navratri Day 2 puja checklist
Keep your puja items ready before beginning so that the worship can remain peaceful and unhurried. Depending on your household tradition, you may prepare the image or idol of Maa Durga, diya, flowers, fruits, kumkum, akshat, water and the Day 2 prasad.
If you are observing a Navratri fast, follow the ingredients and fasting practices traditionally used in your family. Fasting rules differ between households and regions, particularly regarding grains, salt and specific ingredients.
What can we learn from Maa Brahmacharini on Day 2?
The significance of Maa Brahmacharini can extend beyond the puja itself. Her association with determination and disciplined effort provides an opportunity to think about something in your own life that requires patience.
Day 2 can be used to choose one small commitment for the festival, such as completing your prayers consistently, being more patient, practising gratitude, helping someone at home or remaining disciplined toward a personal goal.
Small actions repeated consistently can often become more meaningful than setting very large intentions that are quickly forgotten.
